Personal Information:

Burrill Logee was born 21 Jan 18001. His birth was recorded in Glocester, Rhode Island and he was listed as Burrell Loge, child of Caleb and Rachel Loge. Burrill was the youngest child of Caleb and Rachel. Burrill began assuming his role as a leading member of the Burrillville Community early in his life. On Oct 1818 he signed a petition to establish the Burrillville and Glocester Washington United Calvary2. At age 21 he was propounded (i.e. put forth for consideration) at the Burrillville Town Meeting on 18 Apr 1821 and was "Voted Free" (i.e. a voting member of the community) at the 28 Aug 1821 Meeting3. In 1823 he was listed as an Ensign of the Independent Company called Morgan Rifleman of Glocester4. At the Burrillville Town Meeting of 6 Aug 1821 he was elected as one of the Surveyors of the Highways5..

Burrill Logee married Martha Steere. Based on the birth dates of their children, he probably married her about 1827. Martha was born about 2 Sep 1805 and was the daughter of Adin and Rhoda Steere6. By 1830 Burrill and his family were living in Burrillville and their household included several elderly individuals7. It is possible that one was his mother Rachel and perhaps the parents of Martha.

Burrill continued to serve his community and to establish himself in Burrillville. Between 1830 and 1835, he was elected three times as a member of the School Committee8. On 30 Mar 1839 Burrill purchased 55 acres of property from Manning Arnold in the Northerly part of Burrillville9.

Burrill Logee was in the mercantile business at Round Top, in the northerly part of Burrillville10. He was in that area for about twenty years and then moved to Pascoag, where he engaged in the same business. He then formed a partnership with a Mr. Pickup and under the name of Logee & Pickup was in the manufacture of woolens in a stone building that stood on the Emerson privilege, later the Hawthorne Mills at Pascoag. This continued until 1856, when he sold out and moved to Putnam, Connecticut. He was in the same business for about a year until the "panic" of 1857, which brought him financial reversal. He returned to Burrillville, where he remained until his death11;12;13.

Burrill Logee died on 12 May 1873 at Burrillville14. He was buried in Pascoag Cemetery. Following his death, Martha continued to reside in Burrillville, with her daughter Martha Sophia Logee and for a while with grandson George Logee15. Martha followed in death on 5 Jan 1879 at Burrillville. She was buried in Pascoag Cemetery. Her will was executed on 9 Apr 1876 and was probated 25 Jan 187916. Martha left $500 to George Logee, $500 to Warren Logee, $1,000 to Norris Logee; and the rest of her estate to her daughter, Martha Sophia Logee. She also appointed her daughter as her executor.
