Personal Information:

Norris James Logee was born 5 Jan 1828 in Burrillville, Rhode Island1. He was the son of Burrill and Martha (Steere) Logee. Though his biographical sketch in "Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island" stated that he married Eliza Jane Jillson in 1847, the marriage record in Providence, Rhode Island indicates they were married17 Jun 18572. This record did state it was their first marriage, but it is possible Norris had a prior wife who was the mother of his daughter, Ella, born 1848. More research is needed on this issue. Eliza Jane Jillson was the daughter of Shubel and Fanny Jillson3.

Norris and his family first resided in Burrillville, but by 1860 were residing in Providence4;5. In Providence in 1861 their last child Walter was born and soon after died6;7. Norris Logee must have been quite successful in his work. In 1860 he was listed with $6,000 in personal property. By 1870 his family had moved to Manhattan, New York and he listed himself as a broker. In 1860 he had two servants and in 1870 he had three servants living in his home.

In 1874 his mother, Martha, left him $1,000 as part of her estate9. Norris eventually returned to Burrillville. He died there 28 Aug 1891after and extended illness10;11. His cause of death was listed as heart disease. Eliza followed in death on 2 May 189712. She died at her daughters home in Westfield, New Jersey. Both Norris and Eliza were buried in the family plot at Pascoag Cemetery.
