Personal Information:
Leprelet Logee was bon 5 Feb 1826 in Burrillville, the son of Caleb Jr. and Sarah (Paine) Logee1. When he was only 5 years old his father filed for bankruptcy. Since the family was in such a severe financial situation, Caleb sent young Leprelet and his brother, age 7, to work in the cotton mills2. Leprelet continued to work in the textile mills throughout his career.
On 10 Apr 1847 Leprelet Logee and Ann Tingley filed a marriage intention in Attleboro, Massachusetts3. Ann was born 22 Jul 1828. She was the daughter of Elisha and Susan (Sweetland) Tingley. Leprelet and Ann settled in New Bedford, Mass. where Ann gave birth to twin sons, Edgar and Edmund, on 16 Jul 18494/5.
By the time his children were born, Leprelet was already listed as an overseer in the textile factory. During his career he was responsible for installing textile machines in many mills in both the North and South6. During the Civil War he served as a mechanic in the Ordinance Department at the headquarters in Chatanooga, Tennessee7. Due to his career, Leprelet and Ann had to periodically relocate. In 1880 they were residing in Northbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts8.
Leprelet was very active throughout his life. He was a member of the Masonic Order. He was an avid dominoes player. He also smoked cigars. He had a habit of going to bed about 9 p.m., waking at midnight, having a cold lunch, and then returning to bed to sleep until about 7:30 a.m.
In their later years Leprelet and Ann moved to the Pawtucket/Central Falls area of Rhode Island9. Ann died there on 8 Jan 190510. Leprelet lived for over 25 more years. His 100th birthday was celebrated in the local newspaper and gave many personal details of his life11. He spent his last few years in the Masonic Home in Central Falls. He died 25 Jul 1931 at the Masonic Home in Charlton, Massachusetts, aged 105y 5m 19d12. At the time of his death he was believed to be the oldest living member of the Masonic Order. It is possible he remarried sometime after the death of Ann. His death record listed him as the widower of Eugenia Brayton. Leprelet had outlived his wife and both of his sons. He was buried beside Ann in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Pawtucket, R.I.
