Personal Information:
Cyrus Logee was born about 27 Mar 1839 at Burrillville, Rhode Island1. He was the son of Duty Logee and Elizabeth Robbins. Cyrus stayed in his parents home until at least 18702;3. In the 1860 and 1870 census records he was listed in the Duty Logee household.
He married his cousin Arrena Taft on 2 Feb 18714. She was the daughter of William and Arrena (Logee) Taft, a descendant of the Dorphin Logee line. On 20 Oct 1871 their only child, Burdie Rena Logee was born5. Tragedy would soon strike this family group. On 29 Nov 1871, Arrena died6. The cause of death was listed as Albuminum. Her parents were listed as Wm H. and Irena Goff and her age was 22 years 9 months and 22 days. On 2 Feb 1872, their one year anniversary, little Burdie Rena Logee passed away. Her age was 3m months and 13 days. Cyrus never remarried.
Cyrus appears to have been successful in his business efforts. In 1880 he was living with his sister, Lucretia Olney, and her family in Burrillville7. His occupation was listed as lumber business. On 19 Nov 1887 Cyrus executed his will8. Just five days later on November 24th he died at Burrillville. The cause of death was listed as "probably abscess at base of Brain." He was 48years 7 months and 28 days of age. Two articles appeared in the newspaper at the time of his death9. The first indicated he was seriously ill and Dr Lace called in Dr. Sargent of Worcester and Dr. Ely of Providence to consult on his illness. However, they held out no hope of recovery. His obituary one week later stated that he had been in the lumber business for many years and had accumulated considerable property. It also included other personal data. He was a Prohibitionist in politics and openly denounced liquor trafficking. He had given employment to many mend and some came great distance to his funeral. The services were held in the Universalist Church in Harrisville with the Rev. Mr. Goodrich officiating.
He left $4,000 to sister Elizabeth Caswell for her life and afterward to Ellener Taft, Elizabeth H. Caswell, Flora B. Caswell, Duty E. Caswell, Addie E. Caswell and Myrtie M. Caswell, her children. To his niece Ellener, wife of Hiram Taft, he also left a mortgage deed he held on their property on Smith Emerson. He left another mortgage deed from a Fred E. Arnold to the other Caswell children. Finally, he left the rest of his estate to his sister, Lucretia Olney. He named his friend David Mathewson as his executor.
