Personal Information:
Darling Logee was born 12 May 17821. His birth was recorded in Glocester, Rhode Island and he was listed as Darling Loge, child of Caleb and Rachel Loge. Darling Logee married Polly C. Hopkins on 24 Jan 1802 at Burrillville2. James N. Arnold's, Vital Record of Rhode Island listed her name as Patty C. Hopkins. However, the original record is clearly Polly (probable nickname for Mary). Polly's parents have not been identified.
On 17 Apr 1805, Darling purchased 30 acres of woodland from Noah Millard3. This was followed one year later with 19 acres deed from his father Caleb Logee4. This property was partially described as land bordering the property of Elisha Brown. In 1807 Darling Logee was listed in the Burrillville tax rolls. He also appeared in the 1810 US Census in Burrlllivlle5. Over these years, Polly gave birth to their three children. On 27 Aug 1811 Darling Logee was appointed to the September Court by the Town of Burrillville6.
On 25 May 1816, Dorphin Logee, brother of Darling, declared in Burrillville Probate that Darling Logee, late of Burrillville, died intestate7. The inventory of his estate was valued at $648.55. It included a yoke of oxen, 8 sheep, 5 lambs, and 2 hogs. the witnessed for this inventory were Daniel Smith, Moab Paine and Theodore F. Miller. They also witnessed a second inventory for Oats, Rye and other farm products which were valued at $141.85.
On 3 May 1817, Dorphin was appointed guardian for Sally and Olney Logee. Caleb Logee was appointed as guardian of Leonard Logee. Daniel Logee replaced Dorphin as the guardian of Sally on 2 Jan 1819. One document of great interest was recorded 10 May 1817. In that record, "Rhoda Logee, widow and relict of Darling Loge" gave up her rights to the estate, for $232 and "all the Household furniture that I Brought to my Late husband Darling Logee," to Dorphin and Caleb Logee as guardians for Olney, Sally and Leonard Logee8. This was followed on 28 Dec 1818 with a document indicating that Rhoda Logee received an accounting from Dorphin and Caleb Logee as guardian of the estate. Based on these two documents, it appears that Polly C. (Hopkins) Logee preceded Darling in death and that he had then married Rhoda (unknown).
The estate was finally settled in 1830 when the last of Darling's children became adults and received their portion of his estate.
