Personal Information:
Jane E. Logee was born 27 Nov 18371. Jane was the daughter of Linus Logee and Hannah Sherman. She probably married Francis Whiting sometime before 1863, when her first child was born2. Francis Whiting was born 21 Dec 18333. He was a farmer and the family resided in Burrillville4. Francis died 18 Jul 1879 and was buried in the New East Thompson Cemetery.
The 1880 Census listed Jane E. Whiting as the head of household in Burrillville, Rhode Island5. Her mother Hannah (Sherman) Logee was residing in her home at the time. When Hannah died in 1890, Jane's children were mentioned in her mother's will6. Jane spent most of the remaining years of her life living with her daughter M. Etta Whiting in Putnam, Connecticut7;8. Etta was school teacher and their home was on North School Road. Jane's son, Horace, appears to have spent the rest of his life in his brother, Orrin's, household and working on the family farm9;10;11.
On 12 Jun 1918 Jane followed her husband in death in Putnam, Connecticut. Her obituary stated she was the daughter of Linus and Hannah Logue and that she had married Francis Whiting of Douglas about 58 years ago (i.e. 1860)12. According to her obituary, in the 1890s she came to Putnam to live with her daughter Miss M. Etta Whiting a school teacher in the Israel Putnam School13. Jane was buried in the New East Thompson Cemetery beside her husband. .
