Personal Information:
Mary Starr Logee was born 29 Jul 1864 at Killingly, Connecticut1. She was the daughter of James Kimball Logee and Anna/Hannah M. Bruce. When she was about 13 years old, her mother died2. Mary was apparently a beneficiary of an estate of her mother3. Her father, James K. Logee, was appointed as her guardian and posted a $5,000 bond. Mary continued to reside with her father, and his new wife until after 18804.
On 26 Oct 1888, Mary married James Eldredge Frank Brown, at Killingly, Connecticut5. He was born 19 Nov 1860 at Mystic, Connecticut, and was the son of Roswell and Catherine Chesebro Brown6. James had been raised in Mystic and attended Mystic academy and later Bucklyn Institute.
James and Mary made their home in Mystic at 25 High St. James ran a livery business with his father. The stable was located on West Main Street. He continued in that business following his father's death. In the early 1890s, Mary gave birth to their two sons, Frank Harris Brown and Albertus Bruce Brown. With the beginning of the 1900s automobiles became popular. James adjusted his business to support this new product7;8;9.
James was a member of the Stonington lodge of Odd Fellows. Mary was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance union and of the Fanny Ledyard chapter [now the Anna Warner Bailey chapter] of the D.A.R10. In 1915 James was made the Assistant Sheriff of Mystic. That same year their son, Frank Harris, died11. Frank Harris Brown had been in a sanatorium in Norwich for treatment of a heart condition and had been confined to bead for several months prior to his demise.
On 31 Mar 1924, James E.F. Brown died of pneumonia at his home on High St. His funeral was officiated by Rev. John Beauchamp of St. Marks Episcopal church, where both James and Mary were members. Mary continued to reside at their High St. home until 28 May 1950 when she followed in death12. The Rev. Ernest A. Phillips, rector of St. Marks Episcopal church officiated. She was buried beside her husband at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic.
