Personal Information:
James Edward Logee was born in Killingly, Connecticut on 6 Mar 18451;2;3. He was the son of James Kimball Logee and Julia Sparks. He grew up in Killingly and the surrounding area and learned the bakery trade4;5.
About the year 1866 he married Addie Tucker. She was born 27 Apr 1846. They were married only a brief time when she died 21 Jul 1868 at Killingly. She was buried in the Old Westfield Cemetery in Danielson. They had no children. James remained single for a few years while continuing his business interests. In 1870 he was shown as residing in Putnam, Connecticut6.
James then married Lucy Wheaton on 21 Jan 1874 at Killingly7. Lucy was born 20 Mar 1851. She was the daughter of David Wheaton. They made their home in Killingly and soon had two children8;9. As James' father aged, he took over the bakery business as it grew and changed from primarily crackers to a full pastry line10. A brief biographical sketch in the local newspaper that included his photograph stated, "There are many bakers in this section, but for a long period there has been no one who has better served his patrons than Mr. Logee. He has shown ingenuity and tact in discharging the difficult duties of his profession, and has striven zealously and intelligently to anticipate and fully provide for he wants of his many patrons." It further stated, "He not only does a large business in town but in adjoining towns as well. He runs a team regularly to Brooklyn, Wauregan, Central Village, Moosup, Sterling, Oneco, Williamsville, Dayville and East Killingly, and can be depended upon every time. It has become a common expression that Logee will surely come rain or shine." At the time this article was written he had just recently opened a branch bakery and confectionery at 186 Main street in Killingly.
In 1892, James K. Logee died. James became the administrator of his father's estate. Five years later on 16 Mar 1897, Lucy passed away. James became guardian for their two children for her estate, which showed a value of $744.98. James' half sister, Mary Logee Brown, was surety for this guardianship. About 1898 or 1899, James married for a third and last time to Nellie P. Law12;13. His son Arthur had moved out of the household before 1900, but Addie remained in their home until after 1910. Between 1910 and 1920, James and Nellie moved to Glocester, Rhode Island14. In 1920, Nellie's mother was living in their home.
James died on 29 Feb 1928 in Glocester15. He was followed in death on 10 Jan 1930 by Nellie. She joined James and both his previous wives in the family burial plot in Old Westfield Cemetery.
