Personal Information:
William Kimball Logee was born 14 Jul 1846, at Danielson, Connecticut1;2;3. He was the son of James Kimball Logee and Julia Sparks. He worked for his father as a salesman in the bakery business prior to his marriage. During this period he was the superintendent of the Sunday School of the Westfield Congregational Church. He also learned the printer's trade at the Windham County Transcript, while living in Danielson. As a master printer he left Danielson and worked at the Post in Hartford, the Herald in New York, the Advertiser and Bulletin in Norwich, Conn, and other papers to 1869.
On 8 Jan 1867 he married Emily Lucy Mason in East Killingly4. Emily was born about 1848 in Rhode Island5. In 1869 they moved to Providence, Rhode Island where William carried on his printing trade. It was in Providence in 1870 she gave birth to a son, William D. Logee. Emily L. Logee was became a member of the Methodist church about the year 1860. Emily died 13 Mar 1875 in Providence6;7. The newspaper stated that she died of the Scourge of New England, which was a term used for consumption.
Following her death, William returned to Killingly with his young son, William D. Logee. William K.'s biographical sketches provide various occupations and involvements during this period. He apparently became the proprietor of the Windham County Press and a promoter for the Brooklyn and Wauregan brickyards. His other involvements included sponsoring the Lyceum Series of Lectures and Concerts in that area, and was for a brief time the financial secretary of the New York State Temperance Society, traveling and delivering addresses to large audiences. He also represented the large biscuit firm of Parks & Savage, in Hartford, Conn.
On 20 Jul 1876 William married Susan Elizabeth Mahrs at Killingly8. Susan was born 4 Aug 1852 in Franklin, Mass. she was the daughter of John and Elisa Parkhurst Mahrs9. The next year she gave birth to her daughter, Jeanette Maude Logee10. They remained in Connecticut through 188011. By 1890 they had moved to 71 Cranston, Providence, Rhode Island12. William D. Logee was living in the family home and working as a gardener.
After 1900 their daughter J. Maude married Richard Merwin Cogan13. He would die a few years later in 1907, and J. Maude did not remarry and made her home with her parents14;15. On 5 Dec 1919, William K. Logee died from complications of diabetes in Providence16. He was buried by his first wife in Old Westfield Cemetery, in Danielson. Susan and her daughter lived together in Providence at least through 193017;18. Susan followed in death 9 Mar 1943 at Providence. She was buried in the family plot at Old Westfield Cemetery19;20.
